Why is it that we treat mommin’ like it isn’t a job-as if it isn’t someone’s life work. I am all for women having the opportunity to return to the work force, but I’m also for supporting stay-at-home moms (and dads). Raising children is important. For a lot of people, it’s their passion.
Still, stay-at-home moms get a lot of really ridiculous advice about how to be happy with their lives.
Can you imagine if we gave other professionals the same kind of advice that we do moms? I can, and it’s totally ridiculous.
Just Because You’re a Doctor Doesn’t Mean You Have to Look Like One!
I know being on your feet all day is hard work, but remember that there are attractive AND comfortable footwear options! Ditch the tennis shoes or crocs and opt instead for wedges. They elongate your legs and are a million times more comfortable than regular heels. While you’re at it, spruce up your wardrobe with fitted scrubs. A little tailoring goes a long way! Being a doctor doesn’t mean you have to look medical– you can save lives and look fabulous at the same time.
Your Husband Doesn’t Always Want to See You as a Lawyer
You’re a lawyer all day long, but don’t bring your lawyer energy home with you! Your husband wants to see you for who you are, not what your job is. So change out of your suit before he gets home. Don’t bring up your cases at dinner, it’s likely to kill the mood. Make sure to get rid of any files you might have hanging around the house which could remind him of your job. Remember that you’re more than just a lawyer and your husband should see that side of you too!
Don’t Get Bogged Down With Being an Accountant- Get a Hobby, or Another Job!
Being an accountant all day can be boring and tedious, so make sure you take some time out for yourself. On your lunch break, don’t just zone out and eat- get a hobby! Perhaps you’d like to use that time to learn a language or play an instrument? Maybe you could get another job which you can work on at night. The possibilities are endless once you realize that you can, and should, do more with your time than just accounting.
Get Away From Animals, Veterinarian
Sure, you love animals and you love your job but that doesn’t mean you should spend excess time with four-legged-friends. If you’re a veterinarian and you also have a pet, you’re spending almost all of your awake time with animals. That’s pretty unhealthy. You need to get away from animals at least once a week so you can discover who you really are. Just because you enjoy being around them doesn’t mean you should. Take an overnight trip with a few friends and forget that animals even exist, it will refresh you.
